California Community Builders’ Leadership Academy trains and educates small groups of current undergraduate students throughout the Bay Area on how to be active citizens and leaders of our state. Our students learn by doing hands-on projects and meeting with California’s legislators, supplemented by workshops and mentorship by the diverse expertise of CCB’s visionary leaders and founders, many of whom have decades of experience.
Our program objectives are that our students will learn how their government works and how they can make an impact, thus creating a group of more engaged citizens that allow for a more participatory culture and democracy.
Effective leaders must consider how their personal identities and experiences fit into a larger society. Relationships with people who have experience in those shared aspects of one’s identity are an essential aspect of growing, becoming a leader, and creating communities that work together to advocate for change. Our program is designed to introduce students to a variety of skills and abilities necessary to effectively create the change they want to see in their communities. We provide this through mentorship and adapting each student’s training to their strengths and interests as they learn by doing and completing related tasks and activities themselves.
